El Paso/Ruidoso Event Recap

[Corvettes gather in Ruidoso]

Kim and I just got back from Ruidoso where we attended the five event weekend that El Paso Corvette Club put on. I have to tell you, it was one of the most fun and relaxing events we've gone to in a long time. This was the first NCCC event that EPCC has put on in many years and I think it was a success. Friday night was registration and then getting out for dinner with a group of friends that we have developed.

Saturday morning was a Peoples' Choice Car Show with 28 Corvettes entered. Kim and I had our Red 1999 coupe, Dan Garza brought his "slightly" modified Z06 convertible, and Jerry Gorman had his Atomic Orange C-6. Dan Garza won his class and had the most votes (31) of any car in the show. How come more votes than cars you might ask? While the car show was going on, 17 Corvettes from San Antonio just happened to show up and stayed to observe. They were up on a totally unrelated Casino trip and needless to say, there were Corvettes all over Ruidoso for the weekend.

[Dan Garza's Z06 gets a lot of attention during car show]

In the afternoon we went out on a TSD/Poker Rallye and we and Jerry actually took some decent places (results are still pending). It was challenging (who would ever put a payphone out in the middle of nowhere for a check-point?), but not hard. We were done in an hour and then back for another night of eating with friends. Results were announced at the hotel and Dan won the 50/50 raffle taking home more than he probably would have won at the casino (no amount will be disclosed for tax purposes).

[Checkpoint during TSD]

Sunday brought the final events with another TSD/Poker Rallye that took us out of town and headed in the direction of home. We said our goodbyes and pointed the Vette north with Nick Farkas and his daughter right behind us. Two Red Corvettes out on the two-lane brought some attention but no problems.

I want to thank El Paso Corvette Club for a fun weekend and for those who missed it, well, you missed a great event...
